Mountains Of The Moon Tour
The Rwenzori Mountains National Park spans almost 1,000Akm2 (386AsqAmi), and has Africa‘s third highest mountain peak. The park is celebrated for its outstanding plant life. Owing to its beauty, it is a UNESCO World Heritage site, boasting waterfalls, glaciers, beautiful plant life and delightful animals including elephants, chimpanzees, otters and leopards. It is also home to over 200 species of birds.
The Rwenzori Mountain range dubbed the a?Mountains of the Moona, are easily Africaas best kept secret. They contain much of Africaas permanent ice and the most varied mountain scenery as the climb goes through tropical rainforest through alpine valleys and to the glaciers. Our hike includes a challenging ascent on snow-capped Margherita, rising to 5109 metres. The real beauty of this trip is the ascent up the Kilembe route where the diverse flora in the forests includes giant heather, lobelia, groundsels and ferns. Under the watchful eye of our experienced mountain guides, we attempt the final ascent up to the summit, which requires our guests to rope up and use crampons. The exhilaration of reaching the top is enormous, as you look across Albert Peak to Congo then east across the series of the historic Mountains of the Moon.
After this exceptional hiking experience surrounded by stunning views, you will have the once-in-a-lifetime experience of setting one foot on the Northern hemisphere and another on the Southern hemisphere. The equator, the imaginary line that bisects the world into two halves, is located en route the drive back to Kampala. Proximity to the equator means that Uganda experiences a year-round summer. ABetter still, the equator is a great photo opportunity to capture unforgettable memories, and bag some souvenirs for friends and family.
